CAR Program

The Customized Active Rehabilitation (CAR) program is an evidence based multi-disciplinary assessment and treatment program for non-WSBC clients with physical injuries, chronic conditions or recovering from medical diagnoses with an aim to assisting them to return to function and work in a timely manner.

It is designed to treat almost all forms of physical and medical health issues affecting function.

The basic program involves Physiotherapist and Kinesiologist. However, we do offer provisions for adding a psychologist to this program to assist with managing emotional sequela as well as Occupational Therapist for cognitive deficits, or complex return to work scenarios.

Who is It For?

This service can be accessed by private pay clients, but most frequently will be utilized by LTD companies, RCMP, or other employers via referral.

>If you are interested in the CAR program, and not actively being referred by your insurance provider, please reach out to them directly first to ask about your coverage eligibility.

What to Expect

The assessment provides:

  • screening and analysis of history of presenting conditioning,
  • current symptom profile,
  • treatments and investigations to date,
  • objective measurement systems implicated in one’s injury,
  • their functional level compared to critical job demands,
  • and ensuring they are safe to participate in an active rehabilitation program.

Treatment is evidence based, providing:

  • education,
  • injury specific exercises,
  • functional restoration,
  • and building endurance for activity in a well-supported environment with knowledgeable clinicians.

Programs can consist of education classes, group walks, tension reduction training, individualized gym programs, work simulation, structured activity reintegration at home and in the community.

Treatments, schedules and timeframes are all tailored to an individual’s needs.

The program is designed to progress in hours and days over the duration of a client’s program to ready a person to begin a gradual return to work (GRTW) at the conclusion of their clinic time.

GRTW planning and implementation will be completed as part of the program and the client will typically be requested to attend the clinic to monitor throughout their GRTW.
